Woman may give birth with the womb she was conceived in

By using the same womb to give full term birth from which she was born, Sara Ottoson of Stockholm, Sweden may be become the first woman to do so. Ottoson was born without a uterus and will undergo an experimental procedure where the uterus from her mother will be transplanted into her.

Eva Ottoson, Sata’s mother said that it is the only way her daughter can give birth herself and because of that she did not hesitate to donate her uterus to her daughter in hopes she could give birth one day.

Sara is inflicted with Mayer Rokitanksy Kuster Hauser syndrome which is a rare genetic disorder where the patient has an absent or underdeveloped vagina and no uterus. One in 5,000 births are affected by this condition says the Magic Foundation. Those who have the condition normally adopt or have surrogacy to have a family.

The mother and daughter were approached by researchers in Sweden about undergoing a procedure that is still in the experimental stages. Eva Ottoson said initially she felt the procedure was quite bizarre but now her and her daughter feels it is just another organ transplant. This transplant will not be the first human uterus one but none before have resulted pregnancies.
